Save Green with High Efficiency Water Heaters
A leader in the hot water heater industry, A. O. Smith Water Products Company, has a full line of high efficiency products to help consumers go green and save green, including ENERGY STAR(R) models. The company worked in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to institute and adopt the ENERGY STAR criteria, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2009.
“The ENERGY STAR program empowers consumers to make smart energy choices that will save money and energy, and reduce our carbon footprint,” said DOE Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Andy Karsner. “Expansion of the ENERGY STAR program to include water heaters will give Americans yet another way to more efficiently use energy in their homes and, in the interest of increasing energy security and addressing climate change, help further the President’s goal of fundamentally changing the way this nation uses power.”According to ENERGY STAR, water heating represents up to 15.5 percent of national residential energy consumption, which amounts to the second largest energy end use in homes behind heating and cooling. In an attempt to address this significant percentage of energy consumption, DOE developed ENERGY STAR criteria for water heaters, the last major residential energy end use that the program had not addressed. A. O. Smith offers 19 models that have been recognized under the ENERGY STAR program, with more currently in development.
“A. O. Smith is dedicated to offering high efficiency products that benefit the environment while helping homeowners reduce utility costs,” said David Chisolm, A. O. Smith water heater brand manager. “With energy costs on the rise, this is an ideal time to invest in more efficient appliances, especially water heaters.”
