Green Your Socks – Change the World
Devmir Inc., an organic sock manufacturer headquartered in Morrisville, NC, has introduced a line of organic socks under the Sierra Club brand. The eco-fashion socks are being launched in an aggressive grass roots campaign called a “sock-athon” to benefit the homeless and the Sierra Club. For every pair of socks purchased via www.sierraclubsocks.com, one pair is donated to The National Coalition for the Homeless, with a goal of donating one million pair of socks this holiday season. The Sierra Club also benefits by receiving 10% of the proceeds.
“With people really trying to stretch their dollars this holiday season, shoppers give thrice with one gift. We attract shoppers who care about the environment and who would like to see their purchases help the homeless as we approach the cold winter months … and socks are a gift you can give to just about anyone,” said Diogenes Ruiz, program organizer.
The new line of Sierra Club socks are made from natural organic and eco friendly yarns, including certified organic cotton, bamboo, and recycled synthetics, all with recycled packaging. The socks are available in ladies and men’s styles for performance, dress and casual wear. Each pair of socks contains a special insert describing the program and the donation being made to the homeless on the buyer’s behalf.
One of the sock-athon volunteers, Anora McGaha said, “Besides looking and feeling great, these socks are a practical alternative to other more costly and less practical gifts. Shoppers are also donating to two very worthwhile causes and touching many lives at the same time.” [Sierra Club Socks]
