The negative sides of using fluorescent light bulbs are preventable. You could take special care when replacing and disposing them. Look like some of us still choose convenience over environment! *sigh*

I know this is meant for good and I'm sorry, but I must say I'm against it. Fluorescent lightbulbs are not only much less appealing aestheticly, they contain mercury which is known to be a very dangerous chemical. They cannot be disposed of safely when they eventually burn out. Not to mention if they break in your home, in which case you are to open all windows and doors and nearly run away for at least 15 minutes to avoid poisoning, and still you shouldn't touch it with your bare hands after. Public are not being properly informed of the health threat these "environment-friendly" bulbs pose, and I don't think it will be a positive impact in the environment when lots of mercury-containing bulbs end up in the garbage, mercury and other chemicals consequently getting into the water system! Let's leave aside the blinking, buzzing, headaches, and lighting that's in many people's tastes inferior. Support research for renewable sources of energy instead. Be an incandescent geek like me, and I'll be designing incandescent supporting t-shirts shortly (?)
